Qua Qua lies in the foothills of the Drakensberg and Maluti Mountains. The frequent snow on the peaks of the surroundings led the ancient San to call it Qua Qua (whiter than white). The capital is Phuthaditjhaba (formerly Witsieshoek). The headwaters of several streams, including that of the Upper Elands River, are in the territory.
