Reitz was named after FW Reitz, President of the Republic of the Orange Free State in 1889. The town's history is intertwined with that of the Anglo-Boer War, as depicted in many monuments adorning the town. It is an attractive town with tree lined streets and beautiful kept gardens including cycads.
