This town was founded in late 19^th Century as a railway junction and was named after the wife of the chief railway engineer of the area Alice Dale, later Slessor. The town is being rejuvenated after a slump caused by the downscaling of the railways in the area and is surrounded by a number of famous Game Reserves Well known for its mohair factory and produces beautiful mohair carpets, curtains and cushions.
